“Oh well, oh well I feel so good today”.
The best rock and roll lyrics can invoke a range of emotions; even take you back to a place and time. The use of simple language to express complex thoughts is a way many describe the writings of say, Ernest Hemingway or John Steinbeck. One could surmise that Chuck Berry is the Ernest Hemingway of rock and roll. It is kind of an odd thing to say about a guy that has sold millions of records but, I think he is underrated as a songwriter. I know he still does many concerts, I wonder if he is writing new songs. I think it would be interesting to see him work with someone like Rick Rubin or Jack White. Anyway I woke up with that verse in my head.

“Don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”

From dictionary.com
heat index
n.
A measurement of the air temperature in relation to the relative humidity, used as an indicator of the perceived temperature. Also called apparent temperature, humiture.

I just went out for cigarettes. It is hot in the Ozarks. The weatherman on the radio said the heat index is 102 and, it could go as high as 112. Thanks a lot weather guy, I was having trouble perceiving that it’s stifling, without a manufactured statistic.

Bob Dylan is the Charlie Chaplin of rock and roll.

Rollo
I just got off the phone with Rollo. Rollo is the drummer in the band we are assembling to promote this record. He is from the delta area of Arkansas. Rollo once lived in the house that Johnny Cash grew up in at the Dyess colony. I saw him eat five dozen oysters at a super bowl party. He has wrestled a bear for money. His hair has been entirely grey since the age of 22. He is a former repo-man. He called me about a scheme he is developing involving ping-pong balls and bingo cards. The way I understand it is, every song title will be matched with a bingo number and printed on a ping-pong ball. After every song, we will draw a ball out of a big revolving drum. We will call that number and play that song. Meanwhile the audience will have specially printed bingo cards, as the night goes on if you spell bingo, you win a prize. I’m glad he’s on my side.

Rollo is the Jerry Clower of rock and roll.

112? Bleh! Our weatherman is predicting 100 degree weather this weekend. We’ll be staying in, that’s for sure. Sounds like Rollo never stops thinking. :)
