I have a few minutes before I have to leave for a rehearsal. I thought I would write a bit about my buddy Brian Capps. Brian is a real deal country singer/songwriter. When you meet Brian he is one of those nice, polite country boys. You know the type that says ma’m and sir. Then gets on stage and rips up the joint. Brian plays guitar and has Lou Whitney on bass, D. Clinton (Donnie) Thompson on guitar, and Rongo on drums. Lou and Donnie played on my record. I’ve only met Rongo a couple of times but he is a rock solid drummer. They are a class act so check them out. They will be at the Snorty Horse in Mount Vernon, Missouri tonight.
O.K. that was to be about the extent of what I was going to write but, I was looking up links for this post and this is what I found.

This picture is from a protest at the Snorty Horse last Saturday night.
This is what the club owner had to say about it.
This is what I had to deal with on Saturday night. Evidently a local church, The Freedom Christian Center, and their fearless leader, Tony, thought it would be a good idea to protest the Snorty Horse. I guess I asked for it trying to make Mt. Vernon a live music capital in the center of the bible belt. I must admit, my first reaction was anger and it took me some time to settle down to the point I could talk to somebody involved with the demonstration. I realize they are expressing their freedom of speech, and they were not doing anything illegal because they were on the outer road leading up to the club. I bet there were close to 100 demonstrators scattered all along the outer road which is almost a mile long. Some were dressed as angels, the grim reaper, and of course the grand finally of the kid on the cross. Most of them were holding signs and waiving them at our patrons coming into the club and had t shirts on that said “I see hurting people”.
I always get a kick out of people that use free speech as an excuse to be a nuisance in public. Maybe it’s a cry for help.
So if you are in the area head on out to the Snorty Horse. You will see a great band and maybe the whack-jobs from The Freedom Christian Center will be back doing their shtick. I wish I didn’t have to rehearse tonight.

A protest against live music? In the 21st century? That makes my neck of the woods look like the freedom capital of the world.
