I’ve been busy lately. Not overwhelmed with stuff, just one little thing after another. A wise man once told me, “We are good at dealing with the big things in life but the little things trip us up.” I’ve been stressing over a doctors appointment tomorrow concerning test results. I finally picked up the mail tonight and the results were there. No worries, cholesterol is even down. I have been working on eating better stuff. It’s nice to see evidence that it is paying off.
I am starting to do some promotion for the Trouble Ain’t Over disc. If a band or artist is relatively motivated, they really don’t need a label deal these days. It takes some money but if you are with a label all of the expenses come out of your pocket in the end. If you are independent, at least you know where your money is going.
I was at Lou Whitney’s studio on Springfield till the wee hours last night. We started working on a new Bill Dees record. With Bill, the hardest part is deciding which songs to record. I am listening to roughly thirty right now.
There is a new Who record coming out next month. They have two songs streaming at this link. I recently read the Tony Fletcher book “Moon: The Life and Death of a Rock Legend” about Keith Moon. He led an extraordinary and brief life. Very few rock drummers are stylists. So, The Who without Keith is a different band. Now that John Entwistle is gone even more so. I have not had a chance to hear the new stuff properly (when these bands put up these streaming files it seems like they purposely add noise) and I am going to withhold an opinion till later. Ringo Starr’s son Zak is holding down the drum chair in the new line-up. In the aforementioned book, I learned that Keith Moon had a soft spot for Zak and even gave him one of his stage drum kits.
Also, the last time I took a drink was exactly one year ago today. It has been a hell of a year and would have been much tougher in a haze. I have much to be thankful for.
