Here We Go Again
You can call me crazy but I don’t think that Willie Nelson is ever going to quit smoking pot.
He got busted again. This time down in Louisiana. The press is saying that it is a misdemeanor charge. The police searched his bus and found a pound and a half of herb (plus a bag of magic mushrooms). A pound and a half is a misdemeanor? Then why not just legalize it. That’s enough to get the band high for quite some time.
Willie has one of those unique personalities, people of all ages and backgrounds seem to like him. I know people who are adamantly opposed to drugs that give Willie a free pass.
He will get a lot of publicity out of this and will capitalize on it like the pro that he is, with self effacing humor.
Another Texas act ZZTop announced that it is parting ways with long time manager Bill Ham. Ham, who also kicked off Clint Black’s career, has a reputation for being a my way or the highway guy. Industry types have always said that the band never would have happened without the managers guidance.
There is no set definition of what a manager of a rock band does. They are often maligned and many times, they play the heavy. That being said I cannot think of one major act that did not have a strong willed manager in their corner.
