Buck O’Neil died today at 94. He was an American treasure. I have heard many interviews with him and he always came across with a unique enthusiasm. I was fascinated by his first hand accounts of Negro League baseball. I would recommend the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City to any fan or student of American history. The American Jazz Museum is housed in the same building and one could spend a day in either quite easily. Arthur Bryant’s is right close by also.
Calvin Trillin said “…the single best restaurant in the world is Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque at 18th & Brooklyn in Kansas City.”
The Cardinals lost at home today, still up 2-1. I did catch the end of the game on the tele (thanks Stace, cool day, kids were great fun). The Tigers crushed the evil empire so they will face the A’s in the American league. I have to root for the Tigers in this one; I have always been a fan of manager and old-school grumbler Jim Leyland. The Mets just beat the Dodgers so, if the Cards can win one more I might have to break out the shirt from the 80s.

We have the next three days booked in The Studio in Springfield and I am really looking forward to it. We will be cutting basic tracks with the whole band live in the room together, and then we will do some overdubs later. I like every step of the recording process but the basic tracks are the most spontaneous.
