Monday, Monday

I’ve felt kind of out of sync all day, kind of blah. Maybe it’s a Monday thing, maybe there is something to that. Just think of the Monday songs, “Blue Monday”, “Stormy Monday”, “Rainy Days and Mondays”, “I Don’t Like Mondays”, “Monday, Monday”, has anyone ever had a pro Monday song?

There is a new documentary on Starz about Hunter S. Thompson called “Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride.” Nick Nolte narrates it. I will watch it given the chance but I don’t see how anything about Thompson is ever going to have much impact on film. I have seen the old Bill Murray movie and the newer Johnny Depp one and neither really gets it for me. Thompson’s writing had a way of transporting you to a surreal place and really feel it even if you had never done the peyote. I’m a sucker for a documentary though.

Here is an article entitled “Musicians Oppose Media Consolidation” in which people like George Jones and Porter Wagoner are urging the F.C.C. to put more restrictions on media ownership. At the same time, the twin beacons of light for radio diversity, X.M. and Sirius, have intimated a merger and the F.C.C. calls it an “interesting idea”.

By the way, my favorite Porter Wagoner song is “Satisfied Mind”. Great record, I believe it was cut in Springfield Missouri at the KWTO studio. I’ll have to check my facts on that. I think I may know some people that can go from memory instead of research on that one. Danny Gatton did a cool version of “Satisfied Mind” also.
