I was in the studio this afternoon with (bass player) Hugh Walpole and (producer) Lou Whitney doing some overdubs on a basic track we cut a few days back. It’s a privilege to be with creative people working towards a common goal. Sometimes, when it’s good, it is a nice break from stress. I leave the phone in the car; we lock the door and don’t come out until we’re ready.
When leaving the studio, I often get a sensation that is like exiting a movie theatre to the bright daylight. Back to reality.
Today, after a good session, I hopped in the car. There were a bunch of missed calls on the cell phone. I turned the key and the radio came on blaring the news of the day. What a crazy news cycle. The media in general remind me of a pack of jackals.

from Bob Dylan’s “Watching The River Flow”
What’s the matter with me,
I don’t have much to say,
Daylight sneakin’ through the window
And I’m still in this all-night cafe.
Walkin’ to and fro beneath the moon
Out to where the trucks are rollin’ slow,
To sit down on this bank of sand
And watch the river flow
