The Van Halen reunion with David Lee Roth is “postponed”. Rumors are flying. It may be a negotiation tactic. One school of thought is that promoters were offering less money for the version of the band with Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, than they were willing to put out for the Michael Anthony line-up.
This L.A. Times article states that the band had only had one rehearsal thus far. Interesting quote here from Roth; “The two most feared words in the English language are band meeting.”
Have you ever seen the Seinfeld episode about “Festivus”? That’s what band meetings are like; “And now the airing of greivances”; “And now the feats of strength.”
Don’t fret though, the free Ozzfest is still on. So, you’ll be able to get your fill of cutting edge, underground, rebellious, under the radar, voice of a generation, big time, corporate sponsored rock and roll this summer. Thanks to Jagermeister and (sponsors yet to be named, will it be Pepsi?, Tostitos?, Viagra?, The Olive Garden?). The bands won’t get paid but, that’s o.k. They will be able to increase awareness, promote their brand names, deliver their core message and possibly parlay all of this into future licensing opportunities.

At least a jagermeister sponsorship seems somewhat appropriate to a rock show…altho Jack Daniels would probably be moreso…its when you get that great indie sound brought to you by nextel wireless and teh US Army that i tend to roll my eyes
