What is your thermostat set at? Mine is at 64 degrees. I keep it there all winter unless, I am out of town for a couple of days, then I put it at 55. In the summer, it’s usually between 78-80. I drive a small car; I’ve been getting about 28 m.p.g. in the Ozark hills. I flew once last year on a business trip. I have a gas stove/oven that I use a couple of times a week. Right this minute, I have two lights on, the computer and the radio. If I do leave, I shut everything off. I don’t leave a light on to discourage potential burglars.

Do you drive less with gas at two dollars plus a gallon? If you don’t it’s probably because the only place you go is to work.

I do try to conserve energy. I always have because it’s money out of my pocket.

My gas and electric bill, combined, is right around $100 a month, winter or summer. Al Gore’s gas and electric for his Nashville estate is over $2,500 a month. I’m sure he flies (coach?) a lot and that he has a cooler car than I do.

Most people I know use energy about the same way I do and yet, none of them try to make me feel guilty about it.

I am using Al Gore as a symbol for every movie star/pop singer/elected official that is trying to make me feel guilty because I don’t want to use excess electricity typing out such a long list.

So, Al (Hollywood, Washington, U.N…..) give us a break and kick back the thermostat a couple of notches.

My thermostat is set to 68 for most of the winter since we have two floors to heat. We have natural gas, forced air and the gas company very nicely raised the gas rates right before winter. I keep more lights on in the evening since I’m a night owl and am alone at night. I don’t know if it discourages intruders, but it makes me feel better.

I have to ask if you saw the video that was played behind Melissa Etheridge at the Oscars. I got rather a kick at how Limbaugh went off about that.

An interesting link, a worthwhile and notable link …but what exactly does that have to do with…?

“The Tennessee Center for Policy Research is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions.”

We have 2 rooms so we crank the therm up to 70 for about an hour to get ‘em warm then down to 60 or less for the evening and during the day. I havent flown in 2 years but Im sure theres more I can do to counteract the 100 mile round trip I make six days a week for work and At an average of 2.89 to 3.00 a gallon for in our part of California thats two reasons for me to buy a hybrid.
