Well I’m back, should be able to get back to the habit of posting regularly.
The move to the new place is about 75 percent done, meaning most of my stuff is here but not up and running. Also, no one has lived here in quite awhile so there are a lot of little things to take care of a lot. Meanwhile there has been a snafu in getting my M.S. medicine, blah blah blah, one thing after another.

I just saw a picture if Phil Spector as his trial is starting today. It looks like he has toned it down with the hair. Good move Phil. Does it seem that in the months leading up to the high profile trials that these guys are being seen in the media as whack jobs but when they get in the coutroom the tone it down? It’s a lawyer tactic for sure.

Anyway, I have no idea whether Spector killed the woman but just from different things (lots of guns, drugs in the studio, manipulation, insecurity) I can’t say I’d be surprised.

I hope he didn’t because I am a big fan of his work. As you know, I am very interested in how records are made. Not just the songwriting and performance aspects but things like mic placement and compression levels. I like to know stuff that bores most people because I am interested in how to get the overall sound.

They call the Spector sound, “the wall of sound”. It is a big sound for sure but somehow he retained clarity. His sound baffled scores of engineers through the years. Bruce Springsteen was going for a Spector like production on “Born To Run”. It worked but I think that they spent too much time on that record figuring out some of the secrets.

I read an intereview, years ago, with Sonny Bono and actually Sonny knew more about the Spector method than anyone. Bono was an engineer for Spector but I had an image of his public persona and was surprised at his technical acumen.

So we do let the hype get in the way of character judgement. Hype, a lot of times, is a diversion. A way to make you concentrate on one thing so you won’t realize that another area lacks substance.
