Tornado

This video is from Oklahoma and I find it fascinating because it is an awesome force of nature but, my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families in Central Kansas that are going through the tragedy from the storm that hit there yesterday.

I’ve seen a few tornados, and I’ve seen a lot of video from these folks that chase them around, but I’ve never seen a video captured like this before. You can say what you want about the sanity (or maybe lack of sanity) of these chasers but it definitely takes some stones to pull this kind of thing off.

This last batch of tornadoes has been all over Kansas and Oklahoma. I’m in the Southwest corner of Missouri so, not far from where the action has been. It has been pretty gusty here all day and, by the way, I am living in a trailer park.

Most of my life I have been in areas where tornadoes occur. So, when I say I’ve seen a few, I’ve also been through many that I didn’t see, either huddled in a basement or asleep when they came. I have heard the “freight train” sound many speak of.

One thing I’ve noticed is, that before a tornado, there is a strange vibe that happens. The air get’s still around you, and there is a yellow/brown tint to it. It’s hard to describe because it’s a feeling, maybe instinct and it’s very eerie. This has happened every time I’ve been near a tornado but, it’s not foolproof for prediction because I’ve witnessed this many times when no tornado came. But, every time that I experience these conditions, I get cautious. I call it tornado sky. I haven’t seen or felt it today.
