I’ve been recording most of the day. Not in the real studio, in my living room. When I write a song, I usually make a demo of it by myself, then if I like it, I pursue it further. I haven’t been writing for a while but I have a new song that I am liking so, it’s time to get back to the grind. At this point, I’m not tied to any type of publishing deal as I was previously so, I feel a sense of freedom.

Let’s see, yesterday it was 18,000 naked Mexicans and today we have a story called “Crowd Packs Amphitheater For Man Claiming He’s Jesus Christ Incarnated“. It’s this guy Dr. Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda, who has millions of followers that have tattooed 666 on their bodies. From the Local 6 story…

A group of Christians protested the event, calling the following a cult. Police also removed two people from the amphitheater.
“We are just questioning their faith and their ‘666′ tattoos,” a protestor told Local 6. “We just want to learn more so we can relate more between being a Christian and believing in this and who the true Jesus is.”

How can you question someone’s faith that has tattooed 666 on his arm to signify that the second coming of Christ has happened? History is filled with people who had faith in things that were dead wrong. If you are upset with Dr. Jose, investigate the money trail. But, the problem with this type of guy is that even if you prove him to be unethical and a fraud, his followers will remain because they have faith. You have to have a high amount of charisma in some form to get to this level. People buy into charisma and that is the seed that grows into their faith.

These kind of guys usually self-destruct (Jim Jones/David Koresh) because, they are not just con men. They usually buy into their own act and that, I’m sure, is some psychological disorder. The only one that comes to mind that’s pulled it off for a long time is Sun Myung Moon but he has always struck me as the con man type. He got some money, sort of laid low, and diversified (most of the sushi sold in U.S. restaurants comes from his company True World Foods).

So, I don’t know enough about Dr. Jose to make the call on whether he’s the Jim Jones type or falls more to the Sun Myung Moon side. The tattoos make me nervous. I see that as a device used to develop control over people’s free will. But then, I’m old enough to remember the people in orange robes selling books at every airport and you don’t see that anymore. So, maybe Dr. Jose will make his dough and move on; time will tell.

I’ll say this though, I feel a lot more comfortable with a guy like Spencer Tunick convincing people to get naked than seeing folks walk around with 666 tattooed on their arms.
