It’s another overcast day in the Ozarks. I just looked at the weather forecast and it says; intermittent showers, mostly this evening, chance of rain 40 percent. So, it’s a crapshoot. I’m playing this Motown show tonight and it’s outdoors with no cover. “Intermittent showers” are the worst because you don’t know where you stand. Playing outdoors can be a lot of fun but if there is a threat of rain it’s hard to keep that from affecting your concentration because, at any given moment you may have to pack it in and run for cover. That sounds kind of whiny, I know but, that is the stuff that tends to creep into my mind before playing. It’s just another form of butterflies or stage fright.

“Before a concert, I want to cancel it. After I am done playing, I want to start again”.
Speaking of cancelling a concert, Barbara Streisand has cancelled the opening show of her European tour in Rome. This from Reuters…
Earlier this month, two consumer activist groups in Italy complained that tour promoters were charging exorbitant prices for tickets to the Rome show. They urged Rome’s city government and Italy’s Olympic Committee to deny permission for the singer to use the stadium.
They said prices ranging from 150 euros ($201) to 900 euros ($1,210) were “absurd and shameful.” By comparison, the best seats at Milan’s La Scala opera house run about 200 euros ($269).
Streisand people say the cancellation has nothing to do with the protest and cite “production issues” as the reason. It sounds to me like a case where the city government has tried to get involved. I have never played in Italy but I have heard that the local government often does things to change the rules after the show is booked. So, Babs’ may very well be doing the right thing here. Would you pay $201.00 for the worst seat in the house for any show?
The pig story (see below) is all over the news now. The legend grows. There is a lot of speculation about the authenticity of the photos, the actual size of the pig and about the 11-year-old hunter. Some people are saying that the pig was poisoned before the kill also. Logic tells me that it shouldn’t be that difficult to verify the size of the pig but I am not an expert in porcine forensics.

That is a fairly extortionate amount for a ticket. I belong to a family of regular theatre-goers and we’ve never paid anything like that sort of money even for really good seats at a top-ranked show. Given the comparison with La Scala, I’d say the complainants do have grounds to do so.

I think it’s outrageous for any performer to think it’s even normal to charge such exorbitant fees for their shows.
I think this is why I prefer movies.
