So, Paris Hilton is back home wearing an ankle bracelet. I thought I would be able to make it through the Paris Hilton thing without saying anything about it. But then I saw this from, of all places, People.com and, of all people, Al Sharpton.
“Though I have nothing but empathy for Ms. Hilton whom I have met and appeared with on Saturday Night Live the night I hosted in 2003, this early release gives all of the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released.”
“I have served several sentences for civil rights and civil disobedience actions and I even fasted which caused health concerns to prison authorities who paid for a doctor to come see me daily rather than release me. This act smacks of the double standards that many of us raise.”
What’s more likely, Paris Hilton passing a mirror without looking, or Al Sharpton passing a T.V. camera/reporter’s microphone without talking. Come on Al, is there no greater injustice happening that you can tell us about? Probably not any that you could drop a Saturday Night Live set-up on.
Which doesn’t belong and why??? Kramer, Imus, Paris Hilton
You may think that Sharpton isn’t really going after Paris Hilton and that he is really going after the justice system. If he had actual details of the case and could back up an accusation of a double standard then, you could say he was targeting the justice system. When he use language like, “This act smacks of the double standards that many of us raise.”, he is doing nothing more then capitalizing on Ms. Hilton’s fame to promote his own visibility in the press. He is the anti Tom Joad. Whenever they’s a celebrity in an embarrassing situation, I’ll be there…
Baseball:
Last night, Trevor Hoffman earned his 500th career save and Greg Maddux his 338th career win in the Padres 5-2 victory over the Dodgers. Hoffman is the first pitcher to reach the 500 save mark. Maddux could, quite possibly, be the last pitcher to have 338 wins. It’s interesting that this happened in the same game because it is an illustration of how much the game has changed. Of the top fifteen all time save leaders; five are still pitching and all 15 have played in the last 20 years. Of the top fifteen all time win leaders: two are active and 5 have played in the last 20 years.
The Cards have won 6 of 7 and are now 5 games out of first place. Too early to get excited but Pujols is starting to hit his stride.
