Another rainy day in the Ozarks and more rain predicted for the next two days. A know a lot of people that are getting the dreaded summer cold.

I spent the afternoon at Lou Whitney’s studio playing him some songwriting demos. I like to get Lou’s analysis because he doesn’t sugar coat it. Four or five times he said; “I’m not making you mad, am I”? He’s being polite but at the same time critical. Lou has been in the publishing business and has a good idea of what a publisher is looking for. It helps to have someone that can give an objective opinion. On one song I used the word “demise”, Lou said, “think more like a welder and less like a blogger”.

I’ve been going through a fiasco with my drivers license. It expired and when I went to renew it, they told me that because of the Homeland Security Act, I needed a copy of my birth certificate. So, I got the paperwork from Maricopa County, Arizona and they needed to see a copy of valid I.D. or a notarized signature. Catch 22; I need the birth certificate because I need to get a valid I.D. and you need a valid license to get notarized. I finally convinced my bank to notarize the signature because the have that on file as well as a photo. I received the copy of the birth certificate today but it says that if I want to obtain a passport or join the military, I need to get a different copy from the state office. I don’t think the Army will take me but I may need a passport at some time so, I have to do the whole thing again.

I was listening to talk radio in the car today. I guess I didn’t realize how out of the loop I am; I have never watched “the Sopranos”. In the back of my mind, I always thought I’d get the DVDs and see what everyone was talking about but now, after I’ve heard everyone discussing the ending it seems sort of pointless to try and catch up.

And that’s about how it is on a rainy, dreary Monday. Consumed by mudane bureaucracy, hopelessly out of the pop culture loop and too much thinking like a blogger.

On the Sopranos, forget about the final episode. I, of course, didn’t care for it, but the debate and speculation it has caused is rather interesting. I would say to go ahead and watch the series. It really is intriguing. I believe you would like it.

Likewise “hopelessly out of the pop culture loop.” I think I’m turning into my mother (?)
