I thought you moght get a kick out of this.
Johann Pachelbel was a baroque composer from Germany. His best-known work was “Canon in D Major.
The “Canon” was originally composed for violins and basso continuo (continuous bass part). Way back, I remember hearing Yngwie J. Malmsteen (I like to use the J, so we don’t confuse him with all the other Yngwie Malmsteen’s running around) play at least part of the piece in a rock context on guitar; very flashy.
Then, maybe a couple of years ago, someone sent me a link of a young guitarist doing a rave-up version of the “Canon”. Every once in a while someone will send me a similar take on the piece.
Evidently, it’ is a YouTube phenomenon with a glut of guitar players rocking the baroque. This video, “The Ultimate Canon Rock”, was edited together using 40 different versions of Pachelbel’s “Canon”, all of them found on YouTube.
Incredible. You just don’t know what’s going to catch on.
