The heat is making everybody crazy. “It’s 102 but it feels like 107″ is what they say on the radio. I don’t want to know what it “feels” like.
I talked to Lou Whitney the other day. I read something somewhere that called Lou, “The Godfather of the Springfield music scene”. Anyway, I will be going into The Studio to record 12 new songs from the 21st-23rd. By the way, the name of Lou’s studio is The Studio, that’s why I put it in caps. Theoretically, this will be for a new record. It will be a bit of a different direction so, we’ll see how it goes.
In talking to Lou, I found out that The Skeletons have been rehearsing and will be performing live soon. The Skeletons (Lou Whitney, D. Clinton Thompson, Joe Terry, and Lloyd Hicks) played on my first record, “Trouble Ain’t Over” (available on the sidebar to your right).
If you aren’t familiar with The Skeletons, you should be.
The Skeletons “..an astounding array of pop influences that come together in the band’s unique sound, with rockabilly, country, beach music, frat rock and Phil Spector all in there someplace. These guys have not merely skimmed the encyclopedia of rock and roll, they’ve read it front to back, footnotes included.

That sums it up a lot better than I ever could.
I first met these guys when we did the Bill Dees record “Castin’ My Spell” a few years back. Since then I have had the pleasure of working with them on a couple of other projects. They have recorded with a lot of other artists, Jonathan Richman, Robbie Fulks, Syd Straw and Boxcar Willie to name a few. They are all consummate studio players.
Since I have known these guys I have come across a great number of Skeletons fans. Every time I meet any of these fine people, I am regaled with legendary tales of the band’s live shows. I have never seen the band live so I am looking forward to what they cook up.
This video of The Skeletons performing the Cornell Hurd song “Play With My Heart” is from 1991.
