Ankiel; The Un-Natural

So, I’ve written about Rick Ankiel twice lately. I was really getting on the guy’s bandwagon and now the news comes out that he was using Human Growth Hormone or HGH. That’s a drag.

As a Cardinal fan, I must say it’s a lot easier to bust on someone like say, Barry Bonds, then someone you are rooting for.

Allegedly, Ankiel did not take the HGH illegally, it was prescribed by a doctor. Well, that’s a bit fishy because he received eight shipments in about a month.

Allegedly, Ankiel did not take HGH after baseball banned the substance. Well, we don’t know that do we? Baseball currently does not have a way to test for HGH. The commissioner’s office has said they are going to meet with Ankiel and I suppose that will be one question they will pursue.

Allegedly, Ankiel was prescribed HGH to aid in recuperation from injuries. Well, that would be a valid reason to use HGH. If my doctor were to prescribe such a substance for this reason, I would definitely use the substance but, I’m not a pro ballplayer.

Ankiel will slide by on this business but it will taint a great comeback story.

Rick Ankiel has gone from being “The Natural” to “The Un-Natural” over night.
