Hugo Chavez Jumping At Shadows

Wow, third post in one day. I think this is a record. I just could not let this story slide.

It seems that CNN made a mistake. They meant to show a picture of this guy….

with the caption; “Who Killed Him?”

Instead, they put up a picture of this guy.

The caption appeared to be a production mistake — confusing a Chavez news item with one on the death of a football star (Sean Taylor). The anchor said “take the image down” when he realized.

Our old friend Hugo Chavez, who is facing some opposition to Sunday’s vote on his new tyranny program, was livid. More from Reuters…

But Chavez called for a probe in an interview on state television, where he repeatedly reviewed a tape of the broadcast, questioning why the unconnected photograph and wording were left on screen for several seconds.

“I want the state prosecutor to look into bringing a suit against CNN for instigating murder in Venezuela,” he said. “… undoubtedly it is part of the psychological warfare.”

So, he’s on TV, being interviewed, and shows the CNN clip over and over.

For some reason I think of stoned frat guys watching a DVD of “Jackass”.

Hugo suing CNN would be the ultimate in Court TV, wouldn’t it?

Hugo, my man, you are one step away from the cuckoo’s nest err…maybe parrot’s nest. It may be that you are spreading yourself too thin. What with the variety show, the CD, visits from Sean Penn, absolute control of Venezuelan media and industry and, if your plan gets passed on Sunday, you could be in power-well…forever. That’s a lot of pressure.

The anti-U.S. president often denounces plots to kill him without providing much detailed evidence. On Tuesday, he said a sniper trained his gun on him at a political rally this month.

See what I mean. I guess these assassination attempts come along pretty often. But c’mon; CNN “instigating murder”? CNN?!!
