A bit of sad news on Christmas Eve, pianist Oscar Peterson has passed away.

I hesitate to use the word virtuoso because, a lot of people associate the word with technical prowess. To me, a virtuoso is a player who has great technique but, it never overshadows the heart and soul. Very few players fit this description, in my mind. Oscar Peterson was certainly one.

Here is a wonderful early ’60s version of the Oscar Peterson Trio (Ray Brown on bass, Ed Thigpen on drums) performing the Benny Goodman song “Goodbye”.

I’d like to thank all of you who stop by from time to time, you make my world better.

Merry Christmas

Jack
