If by chance, you have just stumbled upon this quiz, you must be aware that the contest portion is over. The Grand Prize is no longer offered and sadly, there was no winner. Due to the violent reactions and the threatening nature of comments from some of the losers, I had no choice other than to publish the answers. If you wish to test yourself with the quiz, feel free. The answers do not appear on this page. They are in the comment section-#11.
I was glancing at the FT website, as I often do whilst having coffee, and I saw this piece from last week, “Obama and the art of empty rhetoric“, by Gideon Rachman. You should read it. It inspired me to come up with this little quiz.
Here’s how it works. There are four quotes, pieces of rhetoric. There are four pictures of famous speakers. Simply match the quote with the speaker. I have the answers held securely and safely within the confines of the impenetrable fortress of the rhetoric friendly Winnebago.
If you are the grand prize winner, I will buy you a Mango Fizzy, Barley Pop, or even a shot of Old Rottweiler the next time you come to one of my gigs.
Good luck and no wagering please.
The Quotes:
1. “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
2. “Let us assume a bold thrust and go forward together. Let us carry the fight against ignorance to the four corners of the earth, because it is a fight that concerns us all.”
3. “We are choosing hope over fear. We’re choosing unity over division, and sending a powerful message that change is coming to America.”
4. “If you want to make enemies, try to change something.”
The Speakers:
A. Barack Obama

B. John F. Kennedy

C. Woodrow Wilson

D. Peter Sellers

1. John Fitzgerald Kennedy “sort of a self-fulfilled prophecy, don’t you think?”
2. this can only be Ralph the Mouth, who also said “Click here to chat with a Mormon.” It alludes to a flat earth, and that is definitely Happier Days ago.
3. This one I can’t get because: “…Mario Cuomo, the former governor of New York state, once said that politicians ‘campaign in poetry but have to govern in prose’”… stood in for Obama Hussein Baflack delivering pwetic lyrics: ‘there used to be a real me but I had it surgically removed…’ who amplifies his role in rhetoric… “But his rhetoric, delivered with panache in a fine baritone, soars above theirs [Edward's and Hillary's]… Americans tend to vote with their hearts and their guts… John F Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W Bush were all politicians who could connect emotionally with enough of the electorate to win, against sometimes more experienced and certainly more technocratic opponents…” i think it is a pribek trick question–
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/01/08/wuspols308.xml
therefore:
I say number three is coined by: Marjohjirobige Bagan Von O’Clintockama
4. Woodrow Wilson who by the way body-doubled for Peter Sellers as Col Jack Ripper in Doctor Strangelove also said this: ‘War is too important to be left to Generals. When [someone] said that 50 years ago, he may have been right, but now war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor inclination for strategic thought… and I can no longer sit around and allow Communist corruption, Communist subversion and Communist infiltration of our precious bodily fluids…’

No trick questions.
All the quotes are legit and each one was uttered by one of the above luminaries.
Partially correct answers will not get you a Mango Fizzy. Prize will only be redeemed gigside.
I’m pretty sure that Woodrow Wilson never saids the words “precious bodily fluids” publicly or otherwise.

Jayne-Glad you didn’t Google the answers-that kind of fair play, abiding by a moral compass type attitude gives me hope; you are a beacon of light shining through the fog of these worrisome times however, your answer is wrong.

I did google it… I felt morally justified, as my compass was sat next to the computer power supply and just kept spinning round and round and round…
I’m not telling the answer, even though it’s a mean and cruel quiz!

Mean??!! Cruel??!! How very nice of you to say that Kenski. Good for you and your compass.
By the way, I just now took a cursory look at your website. This looks fascinating. Be assured that I will be snorting around there later today.
By the other way, “Outside Woman”, great tune to cover. The Atlanta Rhythm Section had a nice cut on it. As long as you are delving into the Cream repertoire, might I perhaps suggest “Politician”……… (picture me cackling in a cruel and evil manner at this point)

Some axe grinders will do anything to get people out to their gigs! Jeeeeez!
But…
Everyone was sitting on their campasses, chewing their nails, and showing their true colors, when all they wanted was Mangoes! And bicoastal at that; from Seattle to Manhattan…! …that Offtrack Betting on the east coast must’ve cheated. Wow! You sure brought out the river rats before the flood.
Sorry I missed the fray. Maybe next time? I’ll keep an eye out, 4sure.
Nevertheless, Way to go, you should frame that one and tape it to your desk lamp,

Please remember its March 4th, time to vote today in Texas early and often for B.Obama. I see I am presented here on top of the heap, as number one, just ahead of JFK. Let’s keep it that way!
Keep america beautiful, and do mess with Texas! I did say all those wonderful things, and more. Together, we will develop different behavior patterns and become ethically more responsible. We will address biological basis for more taxes. …So that even the minds of men and animals may be greatly modified and changed. A radical transforming magma laden new earth, to which the coming of, you will contribute heavily in my direction.
With extended empathological redundance,
