I like Ol’ Gnarls Barkley. I think that Danger Mouse is quite clever in the area of producing records.
“The Grey Album”, I thought it was interesting but, over hyped. I think that “Demon Days” by Gorillaz was a great piece of work. Cee-lo the singer in Gnarls; that guy can bring it. That guy is a real deal R&B singer. So, I’m always interested in what these cats are doing.

This is from the Guardian

The video for the group’s new single, Run, has been pulled from MTV after failing the Harding Test - guidelines to help prevent seizures in TV viewers. The clip begins innocuously enough, with Justin Timberlake as the host of an 80s community access television programme. But before the song reaches its conclusion the retro dancers are surrounded by strobing, criss-crossing and interweaving black and white patterns. It’s like the physical manifestation of a bad headache, splayed over the wall behind where Cee-lo and Danger Mouse lip-synch to their song.

Flashing images like these have been known to trigger seizures in epileptics.

I’ve watched it a couple of times with no ill effects. But, I’m not epileptic. It sounds like old Danger has sampled the Supremes, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”.

Here’s the question for the day; Is this a publicity scheme or an honest mistake? Did these guys purposely push the threshold of the “Harding Test” or were they just trying to make a cute video?

You be the judge. The video is below but, please don’t watch it if you are epileptic or prone to seizures.

Its just Escher in motion… just add a little visionary from Godel and Bach and they would’ve played it this way. I think it is pure epilepsy dope!

Valenti, Harding Flash & Pattern Analyser, Hitler, Stalin, Cheney… are all the same guy — always saying “Their way, or the Highway.”

    Gnarls Barkley video banned
MTV has banned the new Gnarls Barkley video, Run, amidst concerns that it might cause fans ton experience epileptic seizures.
The clip apparently failed The Harding Test, a procedure which determines the severity of strobe effects in visual media.
“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but we’re having issues. I think the video is cool. It works for me,” Gnarls Barkley member Danger Mouse said.

    Surgery halts music-induced seizures
    By Rhoda Amon | Newsday

NEW YORK - Stacey Gayle of Queens loved reggae. Hip-hop was cool, too. And she loved to sing alto in the Saddle Rock Tabernacle Choir.

One problem: Her beloved music was giving her epileptic seizures.

The seizures, which started when she was 21, were getting more frequent and unpredictable, sometimes as many as 10 a day. On a Queens bus, surrounded by people with iPods, she caught the vibes and had a seizure. Finally she took her misery to the Comprehensive Epileptic Center at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
It was small comfort to learn that she was one of only five people in the world known to suffer from musicogenic epilepsy — seizures triggered by music. Almost on the verge of suicide, Gayle submitted to brain surgery.
Dr. Alan B. Ettinger, chief of the hospital’s epilepsy division and one of the country’s leading authorities on the disorder, said removal of the abnormal area should result in “better brain functioning.”

The abnormal area acts like an electrical system gone awry, sending out wild signals to the rest of the brain, he said.

Do I hear lo-bot-o-my? Ok, so we just tack on a label warning: “Surgeon General has determined Music moire is found to cause hip dysplasia in lab ducks.”

BTW, Mr. Pribek, I can furnish for a fee, site epilepsy seizure liability coverage. Request your free brochure at SES.clom.

Yes, you are correct: it is an honest publicity scheme mistake. But it will get you seven or eight hundred hits tonight.

    Good night.
