Dear WordPress Pribek and sons:
Thanks for the early feedback! Very kind. We have worked ourselves into a frenzy with all the mammalian and fowl talk in world Governances just this past month.

A. So we can continue to massage our fluffy little domesticated cats, and feed them fresh tuna and liver since we will eat them pending doomsday events, as construed in link provided... [much obliged btw]

and --

B. Beijing reports 200 lost kitties per month sold for $3 each at markets... that is around 10 tank fulls. [also from link you provide]

and --

C. Why today Aug 8, 2008 or 08/08/08? Is the cat headed to the Birds Nest, Beijing, to start a food/fuel war amongst all nations? Developing into a pre-dawn Doomsday model of contention.

And if this is the case, all should remember to keep a hammer and a can of sterno in your closet refuge. "In an effort to further this investigation and hopefully someday reach some closure..." we can turn down a different road now, pending Doomsday.

Okayyyyy PD, I have followed, to the best of my capability, the scavenger hunt you have laid out via comments and links on this fine day. At the heart of your semi-benevolent exercise/investigation/optimization there seems to be an effort to get to the crux of the biscuit, i.e......

why did this guy feel the need to not eat his cat

subsets for investigation may include but not restricted to...
a. at this time
b. why the reminder

In an effort to further this investigation and hopefully someday reach some closure, I performed my own search using only the keywords "eat cat".

I was fairly happy to find that the link for the "Don't Eat Your Cat" mug appeared on page three. Somewhat dismayed that this post was relegated to page nine.

The first item that did appear offered one possible solution.

The day may come, for whatever reason - rioting, pestilence, famine, or just plain curiosity - you will need to eat a cat. Your very survival may depend on this handy guide.
http://www.ooze.com/ooze13/cats.html

Until we have other evidence we can speculate that the guy did not want to eat his cat because of these possible reasons.
a. saving up for a future doomsday scenario
b. a cat is equal to a little more than a half gallon of gas

Our Search Engines at MooPig Wisdom Enterprises have been running non-stop since you posted this story back in March aught eight. We have two good hits:

Ozarkian Madness

-- and this --

..Annelise Krauss of the Dresden Animal Protection Association blasted Koch's new diesel though, saying: "This is as bad as experimenting on animals."HERE -- with -- HERE

A German inventor says he's found a way to make cheap diesel fuel out of dead cats... Dr Christian Koch... said his method uses old tyres, weeds and animal cadavers... They are heated up to 300 Celsius to filter out hydrocarbon which is then turned into diesel by a catalytic converter.

He said the resulting "high quality bio-diesel" costs just 15 pence per litre... Koch said the cadaver of a fully grown cat can produce 2.5 litres of fuel - meaning around 20 cats are needed for a full tank.

He said: "I tank my car with my own diesel mixture and have driven it for 105,000 miles without any problems."

(Doug Ross at Journal; 75% snark-free diatribes on politics, technology & security)

Note to Pribek: The total five months search fees are $1.19, but we are able to charge back with this unique money and fuel saving device brought to light due to your original post. Who knows maybe we will have to blow-back some carbon credits your way from this one.

Congratulations!!

Jayne-Well, you know some people are "cat people", some are "dog people". Good to know where you stand on this one. Thanks
Pat-I wish you would have been right there with me. This was one scene that you, truly would have dug. Maybe next time.
J-I'm a big fan of "Zone", the theme (Howard Roberts on guitar btw) and for sure, Rod Serling. That being said, sometimes truth is stranger than "Twilight Zone".
Ovidiu-I'm glad you liked it. A funny thing, in my conversation with the guy, he was implying that he had been part of, I don't know for sure but, maybe some kind of big-time criminal activity. But, he wouldn't come right out and say it, this is when he would go into this gibberish bit. So, who knows? I may find out later that he was infamous.
You are so right about; "I have also seen that sometimes, these not rehearsed, on the fly songs come out the best in such places." Sometimes it gives you an edge that the crowd feeds off of, I think. It's great when it works out.
Gary-It has become sort of a quest for me to be a keen observer of these kinds of things so, thanks for the encouragement.
Kenski-"Presumably if he spends his last dollar then it must be time to eat the cat?" That was exactly the first thing that came to my mind when I read the bill. Yeah Springfield has it's own vibe, especially when you dig a little deeper than the prop-jet set.
Ric-In a word, Extraordinary. Knowing our common acquaintance, I can't say that I am "surprised" that you brought this to the table. But, I am delighted. Oderint dum metuat, ehhhh Palikar?

Now the songs will have context, listen again and
imagine the story. Is it like you had already
imagined? In any case, Dance ! Opa a fresh can and
remember many palikars call you The Big Souvlaki!!

Manolios the Shepherd sends his greetings and Old
Ladis reminds you that you owe him money. The widow is
jealous of your present happiness, but I have my hand
on her breast as I write and she is willing, with a
sigh, to bless your entire family. The Raki is gone, I
smash my glass to your health and three others to your
children's. With my kerchief I wipe my tears for your
honest wife and the trouble she must put up with! You
scoundrel, have pity on her. Can you hear us all here
as we sing these songs, with wet eyes for your absence
among us. More food !!..before we shame ourselves and
make you think we've turned into women."Opa, raise the
pistol and fire "Zio Lives, and Lives Well!!"
We remember you always and with a sprig of basil in
your ear, a brush in your teeth and a guitar slung
over your shoulder - a waist of 36 and a drip of sweat
on the end of your nose. Palikar, we salute you!!
And when we meet again, I kill you!!

Presumably if he spends his last dollar then it must be time to eat the cat? Having spent many surreal hours in a number of 'strip mall' bars in Springfield MO I can actually imagine the scene!

Nice story, Jack! The fact is that after the old man asked you if you know who he is, I was expecting him to be some forgotten famous guy or something. And the Neil Young thing, I have also seen that sometimes, these not rehearsed, on the fly songs come out the best in such places. I found myself playing something that I was not very sure about, not quite rehearsed, but was the best moment of the evening cause the audience was clapping and singing along.

Ahhhh!
blurred mud hen

This one goes to maritime law:

Rule V - Voluntary Stranding

When a ship is intentionally run on shore for the common safety, whether or not she might have been driven on shore, the consequent loss or damage to the property involved in the common maritime adventure shall be allowed in general average.

You basically took one for the Gipper, Jack and that is worth at least an honorable discharge, in the general average. Good show old boy; felt like I was right there! You are a gifted writer.

When a ship is intentionally run on shore for the common safety, whether or not she might have been driven on shore, the consequent loss or damage to the property involved in the common maritime adventure shall be allowed in general average.
