I wonder something. Do you think, that back in the 1960’s, that people working on T.V. shows, every T.V. show, ever thought to themselves; “Someday, in the distant future a full-length, feature movie will be made that is based on this show?”
Latest victim, the goofy cartoon “Speed Racer”.
From MTV
“It’s going to be like nothing you’ve seen before — really,” echoed “Lost” star Matthew Fox, who plays the mysterious Racer X in the flick. “Larry and Andy [Wachowski] are huge fans of the material, so they’re going to pay homage to that and respect that in their version of ‘Speed Racer.’ But the world that they’re defining is so unique to itself.”
You know, just because something is “like nothing you’ve seen before”, that probably isn’t enough to get me to go see it. There are a lot of things I haven’t seen before that I don’t need to see.
In the original Speed Racer; the best part was the opening sequence.
That’s going to be tough to beat.
Question(s) of the day:
What is the best movie based on a T.V. series?
What is the worst?

Yo’ ‘Heme, and ‘J’:
My younger sister, Becky, adores Speed Racer. I really hated it when it came on at 7 am every morning… that intro song is syncopated. It was like a trumpet fanfare calls to arms for Becky. Syncopation is a word that the Cole Porter generation, [that includes me] used to describe Elvis type flavor.
If you ever see old TV variety shows, notice, Bob Darin, Andy Williams, and maybe even Sinatra couldn’t sing in syncopation. They tried real hard to snap their fingers, and move their feet… took a while until they got it, sort of. By then the entire world had forgotten them. Crooners lost, Elvis won.
Let’s just go with Why Ikki peed ya on this one:
Speed Racer now, today, in my opnion — represents what I would snobbishly call the beginning of the Syncopation Era. What you youngsters call a back beat, or a sweet badasssss back beat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFXkJDVfKmM , a youtube dweeb back beat… no?
And I say that with extreme snob all over the keyboard this morning.
Good: “Coneheads,” though not a typical TV series, more character based.
Better: “Dragnet” same guy, only Joe Friday in this one…
Best: “Beverly Hillbillies” for me… though “Addams Family” is a tie; Christina Ricci, right?
Thanks ‘J’
and
Bad: “Bewitched” not so terrible, just could have been better, and do not like Ferrell in this one, although Shirley McClaine is a good call by the casting crew.
Worse: “McHale’s Navy” I was a McHale’s Navy TV Junkie, let down a little by the original crew in the movie… but laughed loudly at theatre.
Worst: in reverse — worst TV series after a movie… Peyton Place, I am tired of drama… no?
Dramatically spent, all snobbed out, No?

Best movie from a TV show absolutely is Addams Family. The worst is the Scooby Do Movie - that was a load of spoiled tripe!
