So on top of the gigs I mentioned before , I have two more booked for this year, I have Paul Merton 's Impro Chums in May, which should be really good; think Whose Line Is It Anyway on the stage. Next I have what has to be an awesome 80s hair metal gig: Def Leppard and Whitesnake! In the same gig! That should be awesome, and will be the 4th time I've seen Def Leppard.

Actually PD, I have been known to do a version of "I Used To Work In Chicago". Haven't in many a moon but, I am aware of this lexicon and recognize it's powerful crowd participation aspect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyaiRuPXSv0

I realize this is late; but I found another genre cover you might want to try!!

But, I will spend a lot of time today trying to think of songs that meet this criteria.
1. Must fit my limited vocal range
2. Must be something familiar to the audience
3. Must be “danceable”
4. Must be structurally simple enough that the other guys can fake it if they don’t know it

Pat Darnell and Friends's last blog post..Nello and Orso weigh in on Penguins: UPDATE !!

You bring up a good point.
Just how did Bill Gates become a Bazzillionairey with a brand name that basically represents small and limp?

...Restaurants, clothing stores, antiques, flea markets, art galleries, jewelry stores, night clubs, hotels and Hammons Field, the home of the Springfield Cardinals...

REporting from the Middle -- Bryan, TX
At A&M, the Aggie football team is famous for the Twelfth Man, in our sister city College Station. Maybe you could become famous for the Fifth Man rotation. Say, have tryouts at band batting practice, like before the gig. Let some guys/gals audition... then pick one after the opening set, let them run on stage from their seats. "Come on Down," you shout and look at your index card, "Alfred Newman-Spishak." [who is actually a Chris Angel impersonator, that you planted...shhhh] The crowd goes wild...

But, of course, you plug her/him into a special gizmo that is connected to a $5 guitar-hyro footlong sandwich subway, or "iKlax sounds like you" and you do the Devil .. Ramblin'.. Melissa, and the crowd by now is dancing on the ceiling. 'Because one of them is on stage...

Then upon taking first place in you-tubed-who, with forty thousand hits in four nano-seconds, and you are declared a carbon sink, as important as rainforest's. But you don't let it go to your head. You accept the awards, as you graciously give them away to the Fifth Man-fred's..... would be's!

I think you can download all the stuff you'll need for free... and upgrades are only $49.95.

Thanks guys.
Chris-Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about opening up the mix. I end up doing a lot of things where the lineup is-bass, drums, keys, guitar. My favorite situation though, is to have one more guitar added to that. Get two guitars playing opposite ends of the beat and key filling in the harmonic holes-man that's a steamrollerfreighttrain. But, most of the time, you can't get the extra dough to pay another guy out of these club owners.

Ovidiu-"Playing without a plan" is something I've done a lot of as well. Sometimes it's really good, sometimes it blows. We have a really good rhythm section going in so, I know it's going to be alright.
But, I will spend a lot of time today trying to think of songs that meet this criteria.

4. Must be structurally simple enough that the other guys can fake it if they don't know it
So, "playing without a plan" sometimes, requires more work than a couple of rehearsals.

Well, Jack, that says a lot about you if you are part of the lineup ;-) A very challenging thing to do, really, to play like this, without a plan. Very demanding.

hey jack. I hope you had a great time playing with davey, personally I allways have more fun when you've got a good cat playing some keys, seems to open up the mix, and davey definetly appears to fit that mold. Best of luck my friend!
