What Has Oscar Winner/Nobel Prize Winner Al Gore Been Up To?

Hey what has Oscar winner, Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore been up to?

From Jeff Poor at Business and Media Institute

Using tragedy to advance an agenda has been a strategy for many global warming activists, and it was just a matter of time before someone found a way to tie the recent Myanmar cyclone to global warming.

Former Vice President Al Gore in an interview on NPR’s May 6 “Fresh Air” broadcast did just that. He was interviewed by “Fresh Air” host Terry Gross about the release of his book, “The Assault on Reason,” in paperback.

“And as we’re talking today, Terry, the death count in Myanmar from the cyclone that hit there yesterday has been rising from 15,000 to way on up there to much higher numbers now being speculated,” Gore said. “And last year a catastrophic storm from last fall hit Bangladesh. The year before, the strongest cyclone in more than 50 years hit China – and we’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.”

Well, using tragedy to advance an agenda…yeah, I’d say that’s a little tacky, especially while they are still counting the bodies. But, Al wasn’t there just to advance an agenda; he was promoting a book too.

He is an Oscar winner. He is a Nobel Peace Prize winner. He is a best-selling author. He is never showing up just to promote an agenda.

Earlier this month, I saw this at TreeHugger.

Al Gore and the investment vehicle he heads has closed a new $683m fund to invest in early-stage environmental companies. For the new Climate Solutions Fund to raise such money in the face of an economic slow-down demonstrates that confidence in green investing remains strong. The fund will focus on equity investments in small companies in four sectors: renewable energy; energy efficiency technologies; energy from biofuels and biomass; and the carbon trading markets.

Carbon trading markets? Is that the “Carbon Offset” racket?

Al is a smart guy. Any time he shows up to advance his agenda, he is also advancing his wallet. The more he can “raise awareness” about global warming, the more money people will spend on renewable energy; energy efficiency technologies; energy from biofuels and biomass; and the carbon trading markets. Nothing wrong with making a buck now, don’t get me wrong. A guy has to make a buck. And, Al has to make a bunch of them to pay more in one month than the average American pays in a year, to heat and cool his 10,000 square foot house.

Flying around in private jets, having people fly advance copies of “The Sopranos” to London and hand delivering them; stuff like that cost’s money. And, for an Oscar winner/Nobel Peace Prize winner like Al Gore, to make that kind of dough with a clear conscience, somebody has to buy some biofuel and carbon offsets. To get that done, it takes a lot of awareness raising and agenda advancing. And, that takes putting on big rock shows and using tragedy as opportunity.

It’s just that simple.

Oh, yes, Al be sure to hug your guitar this week. There’s still time to take it all back. I hear they are hiring at the welder’s union, if you want to just semi-retire.
Love and hugs to you, brother Gore,
