This, is a By God Boxed set. Sun Ra and his Arkestra’s “The Complete Detroit Jazz Center Residency”.
Very limited edition, numbered 28 CD-R boxed set of the Complete Detroit Jazz Center Residency: December 26, 1980 - January 1, 1981 containing 11 complete concerts with over 26 hours of music!
Besides the 28 discs, inside the box we also find two large pages that list all of the song titles from each disc. A large portion of these sets featured dozens of Sun Ra’s original compositions, chanting, inspired soloing as well as a variety of standards from Fletcher Henderson, Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Duke Ellington and classics like “Over the Rainbow” and “Big John’s Special.” Although these are all record from the soundboard, the sound quality is relatively good. An amazing set at an unbelievable price!
28, count ‘em, 28 discs for $99.99. Not everybody likes Sun Ra’s music, even a hardcore fan might have a hard time liking 28 discs worth of stuff. That’s $3.57 per disc if you were wondering.

A long long long time ago there used to be a DJ on BBC Radio 2 (when it used to be the easy listening station for the nation) called Pete Murray - he had a show made up of requests sent in by listeners “It is my parents golden wedding anniversary can you please play anything by Victor Sylvester (sp?)”
One day somebody sent in a request - “We’ve just come back from a holiday in Greece and while we were there we heard this wonderful music. It would be such a treat for us if you could play something by this artist to remind us of our fabulous time in Greece” (I paraphrase, of course, as I didn’t hear the original broadcast) The artist - you’ve guessed - Sun Ra and his Solar Arkestra. I don’t know which track was played, of course, but it was sneaky/clever way of getting some different music played on Mainstream radio. (Nothing on google about this)
