I found this weird MTV, anti-piracy print ad to be interesting. From Ads of the World.

“You are an ordinary thief, if you’re listening to illegally downloaded music. MTV against piracy.”

Advertising Agency: MTV in-house
Creative Director / Copywriter: Tomas Ramanauskas
Art Director: Danielle Gula
Photographer: Tomas Kauneckas, Ciklopas Studio
Published: April 2008

That is a stocking on the kid’s head.

Any time you see something like this you have to question whether it will be effective. And, I’m sure that the unwashed consensus will be that the ad is useless and “stupid”. Who knows?

What’s interesting is that MTV, all of a sudden, has a stake in anti-piracy. Yeah, I know that MTV doesn’t have much to do with music anymore. Still, is it some attempt to appease the labels/RIAA? A show of solidarity?

Curious.

    It strikes me the same with the Truth anti-smoking ads. They’re clever, but they’re not effective.

    Then again, I’ve never been a smoker….

  2. Interesting correlation Sans. Vice Taxation has replaced prohibition type bans over the last 70 years.. eh? A pack of fags costs $5 and 55% is taxes, no?

    Next will be the Carbon Footprint Tax… no?

    I need someone to help actually trace the music money trail to say, Paul McCartney, or Merv Griffin, or Elton John… the one or group that puts the burden of proof on the “listener.” And then I have heard the SONY 50 year plan of corralling all the copyrights from last century… for someone called Blu Ray.

    I’m asking, how do I go about making a search,,,, like this?

    Your friend, not in the music business, but muy interested;
