This is fitting for Memorial Day.

Before an enemy mortar round in Afghanistan fractured his ankles and nearly severed an Achilles tendon, Coppola (Jason) ran 2 to 3 miles a day and played catcher and right-fielder in two men’s softball leagues, always rushing between Southington and Meriden for a game.

He needs a new hobby now.

The Old Glory folk guitar was presented to Coppola as the 1,000th musical instrument given since Operation: Music Aid started shipping out guitars, keyboards and harmonicas to wounded American military personnel in 2006. The nonprofit is run through the Madison Music Center, where Saturday afternoon Coppola walked with a slight limp, thanking the town’s first selectman and the state politicians who came to honor him.

I like the idea of music in connection with therapy.

Operation: Music Aid is a non-profit organization, based in Madison, CT whose mission is to secure musical instruments of all types in order to help aid in the rehabilitation of our valiant men and women who have been wounded while serving their country. Keyboards, guitars, and other musical instruments will be provided to the military hospitals, where our American heroes are rehabilitating. 100% of all donations go to the purchase of musical instruments for our severely wounded heroes. Any Size Donation is Appreciated.
