It’s been a while since I have discussed the disturbing amount of violence that surrounds the karaoke culture. In August of last year, I wrote a post called “Karaoke Violence Needs To Stop” about an assault that was a result of a karaoke performance of the Coldplay song “Yellow”. In it, I put forth this common sense solution that has regrettably gone unheeded.

At the very least, this karaoke violence is something that needs to be looked into. I doubt that this is an isolated incident. It may be time to put a stop to this public safety hazard through legislative means. I think that someone should introduce an anti-karaoke bill in order to keep the streets safe for our citizens.

Stop karaoke.

Karaoke kills.

Karaoke violence continues unabated. On any given day, one can glance at the news and see instances of this trend that tears at the very moral fabric of society. And, keep in mind, that much of the karaoke violence flies under the radar. For some reason the mainstream media and law enforcement do not always make the connection between violence and karaoke. Often, you will see a headline like, “Man Found Dead In Car” or, “Shooting at local nightclub” and, the fact that a karaoke related disturbance happened before these events goes unreported.

Today, we have news from Australia about a six-year-old incident that is yet to be resolved.

A coronial inquest has heard that the fatal shooting of a man outside a Sydney bar six years ago was a brutal murder.

Nineteen-year-old Ivan Au Phan died in hospital after being shot outside The Ding Dong Dang karaoke bar in 2002.

He and his friends had a fight with another group who had been at the same bar…

The counsel assisting said there was enough evidence for the coroner to consider it a “callous, cowardly and brutal” murder and refer it to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The wheels of karaoke justice sometimes move too slowly don’t they?

From the U.K. we have this one…

Police in a West Yorkshire town are appealing for witnesses after a karaoke organiser was left with broken ribs when he was attacked during an argument about a song.
The 64-year-old local man spent two days in hospital for treatment after the attack, which is believed to have been carried out by a man known as “Big Dave”.

The assault happened during a karaoke night at the Brighton Hotel on Brighton Street in Heckmondwike last month, following the argument over a song that had been played at about midnight.

How long must this go on?

How long will we let karaoke lead our society down the road to ruin?

I’ll wager that there’s something fishy going on. My guess is that the producers of the so-called ‘harmless’ Karaoke master tapes actually put some violent subliminal imagery in there. It’s brainwashing, pure and simple.

Either that or someone jumped the queue and got in with ‘I Will Always Love You’ in front of someone else. That’s enough to p*** anyone off.

I’m going with Kenski, I always feel weird in the Karaoke places. Like just the other night, a typical Thursday Girls’ Night out, and the Chippendale’s had just performed at the Fox and Hound. They fired up the Karaoke machine, and an Aggie sitting at the bar gets a bottle of Schlitz right over the head. Sue Gellar had lost her temper, when Cheryl Gloontz and Becky Stowe began singing “I got you babe.” At the time. I was talking to a gal in the corner about the guys I talk with on the web. When I turned around, she was gone… go figure, must’ve been the Karaoke.

I hadn’t associated the two actions until your article. Thanks Pribek, and Kenski.
