From the Trib we have bass player Matt Maginn of the Omaha indie-rock band Cursive who is discussing the gas price/touring band issue.
“If you’re a new band driving cross-country in a van pulling a trailer of equipment that’s getting 6 miles a gallon, and you’re getting paid 50 or 75 bucks to play a gig, I don’t know how you survive.”
Uh…here’s the deal, Matt…and what I’m going to say here speaks to the larger problem…and what I’m going to say here applies if gas is a buck a gallon.
If you and your band are driving across country and getting paid $50-$75 a gig, you are either,
1. Getting money from your parents and that’s how you “survive” on the road
or…
2. Everybody in the band is dating a stripper and getting money from them.
Used to be that you didn’t see a lot of either scenario. I’m not saying guys weren’t dating strippers but, if they were, they were at least going dutch. As time went on, we started to see more of examples #2 now, it’s most often example #1 that prevails.

What does a stripper do with her asshole before she goes to work?
She drops him off at the rehearsal space.
