There is a new documentary, “Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson”, coming out in limited release on July 4th. It is directed by Alex Gibney, who won an Oscar for “Taxi to the Dark Side”, which I have not seen and know nothing about as I am hopelessly out of the loop concerning Oscar winners.
I have, however read Hunter Thompson extensively and, even though films about writers, in general, don’t ever really get it, and films about Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, in particular never come close to getting it, they are still fun to watch and, I usually get suckered willingly. Even that one where Johnny Depp played Thompson to rave reviews, a performance that I found unappealing (I don’t know, maybe it’s generational); I watched. Depp, by the way, narrates “Gonzo”.

But, if you really want to get it, go read the stuff.
