I got to tell you, I have gained a whole new respect for Axl Rose.

Such drama in the last week.

First, some unknown blogger, a guy named Skwerl, released highly anticipated tracks that Axl has been working on for 14 years.

Then, the news that Skwerl is being investigated by the FBI about his role in releasing Axl’s tracks.

Meanwhile, Buddyhead works up a remix of one of the new Guns N’ Roses tune, slaps a video together and throws it up on YouTube.

All of this going on before poor Axl has a chance to release his record.

And that’s not even the worst of it.

On top of all of that crazy stuff, Rolling Stone reports that not long ago, Axl was in his dressing room, minding his own, when he suddenly got a surprise visit from this guy…

and….THIS GUY…

SURPRISE!!!!

That’s right, a drop by, a pop in, from Sebastian Bach and Ron Jeremy.

I mean, can you imagine?

“There’s only a couple of times he’s ever gotten mad at me. One of them was when I let Ron Jeremy in his dressing room. He didn’t like that at all. ‘Why the fuck did you let Ron Jeremy in my dressing room?’ I was like, dude, he was begging. That wasn’t a good time for me.

See, you could deal with some guy named Skwerl leaking your tracks. The F.B.I. thing, well that’s not really Axl’s doing. And, the publicity on that will actually run in his favor. C’mon, you have to pretty important if the F.B.I. is going after somebody that burned you. Cats doing remixes, even if they are poking fun; you just roll with it.

But, for the love of God, you have to draw the line somewhere.

You think it’s easy being a rock star? Next time, you’re enjoying a little solitude, a little serenity, try to imagine what it would be like to hear a tap tap tap on your chamber door and, open it to see old Sebastian Bach and Ron Jeremy standing there.

So, guess who I have been listening to all morning?

It’s Pettibone against all odds once again. MCA vs. Heartbreakers…. pure martyrdom… Axl vs. SONY gizmo-shit, winds of change, arm-chair producers, your song is my song literally… and sampled by spoon fed twerps.

Axl I hope yu find your “e” …. stayed greased young’ man. Remember Sting was a triple threat and villain in Dune,.. when you were still just a juvenile delinquent… hunh?

Poor old Ron Jeremy, the Harry Potter of 70’s Porn,?? is pathetic, as usual, and I think he must be running thru his Bucket List.. I have two words for him… Dirk Diggler. I cannot abide cheap shot artists, sorry guys.

    Knock, Knock!

Indeed, he has a lot of publicity around his work, if he only would release the damn thing! I actually ask myself if this can’t go against him. Meaning that after people waited for so long, the expectations may be very high and there may be a lot of disappointment around.Releasing one track as a leak may actually give people an idea about how things are going in order to not have wrong expectations, right?

Did you actually say NAD SHARK!!!???

Ovidiu-I don’t see Axl suffering any damage from any of the publicity.
There’s more interest in GnR right now then there has been since the original thing ended.
Axl has quality management in place and, what I’m seeing is a lot of positive reaction to the leaked tracks. So, I think the faithful are going to be behind him and new fans will get on board, they’ll be drawn in by all the fuss.

I don’t know, Jack, maybe in USA there is more to it. Here there is not much from GNR, only what we can see on YouTube and on internet in general. I was just asking myself if the bar is not set too high, because as we were discussing a few days ago, there is not much from the artistic point of view regarding these track, more from the technical point of view. The voice is better, the music is more exact but I don’t see a “November rain” there, or a “Don’t cry”…

Well, there is a lot of publicity surrounding the whole thing right now, Ovidiu. And, that is noteworthy in that, GnR/Axl were previously subjects that the press ignored. I now see press speculation that the tracks were leaked on purpose. Who knows? Personally, if it’s a publicity stunt or not doesn’t much matter to me.

I am seeing a lot of positive reaction to the tracks. And, regardless of publicity, that’s going to be the make or break for Axl’s mainstream future.

As far as the quality goes and mt own opinion, I think that the record sounds good. It sounds to me like Axl has progressed as a songwriter. I never really bought in to “November Rain” or “Don’t Cry”, they sounded like generic power ballads to me. But, there is stuff on the new record that is interesting to me.
