I’ll tell you what, every time I look at an article about T-Model Ford, there is a classic quote from the octogenarian blues man. This one from the Chicago Sun Times.
“I was plowing behind a mule when I was 6. I worked the saw mill, picked cotton, done some kind of every kind of work to make a piece of money. Didn’t start playing the guitar till I was 58. My wife bought me a guitar and an amplifier. I was angry. I said, ‘What am I going to do with that?’ But I picked it up and played … never had one lesson, I just tried it,” said Ford, who cannot read or write. “I’ve had five wives and 26 children, and I’ve raised ’em all,”

5 wives and 26 children? Sounds like he’s more than just a quote machine…

Maybe he should have picked up the guitar earlier in life

At times when my playing isn’t going so well, or I feel stuck in a rut, I always think about the fact that if I hadn’t started playing until now then by the time I’m 70 I’ll have 30 years under my belt. The fact that I can already play puts me ahead of the curve.
You have no idea how great it is to hear that T-M F didn’t pick up a guitar until 58! I can slack off for another 18 years!!!! Hooray!
