“These new bras represent pioneering work,” said Ruediger Carstens, a spokesman for the Bundespolizei.

Why?

The bra is bullet-proof baby. From the BBC.

It may sound like a joke, but this is a serious matter - the policewoman who came up with the idea said normal bras can be dangerous when worn in combination with a bullet-proof vest.

“The impact of a bullet can push the metal and plastic bits of the bra into an officer’s body, causing serious injury,” said Carmen Kibat, an adviser on equal opportunities for the Hamburg-based Bundespolizei - Germany’s federal police force.

“I always thought normal bras posed a safety risk and I wanted to change that,” she said.

“These new bras are very important and they will help all our women officers.”

It’s a little misleading because, the bra itself isn’t bullet-proof. It has to be worn with the vest. But, a normal bra is unsafe when worn with a bullet-proof vest. Who knew?

A new film about China’s first Olympian will feature four top Chinese-speaking celebrities on its soundtrack, its producer said on Wednesday. (April, 2008)

Jackie Chan, Lee-Hom Wang, Zhang Ziyi and Stefanie Sun will join together to sing “Stand Up,” the theme song for “The One,” producer Wang Zhebin told the Beijing Times.

“The One” is based on the story of sprinter Liu Changchun’s struggle against Japanese invaders to represent China at the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles. Supported by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), the film was made as a tribute to the 2008 Beijing Games.

The first thing I thought on seeing the title was: wow… that’d be really useful if you ever wanted to disarm one of the FemBots from the Austin Powers movies.

Yes, that’s the way my mind works…

Aye, yours a brilliant mind at that, Mr Kenski — and I would allude to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen at this point, but Pribek would go stiff- necked on me.
