I don’t know why this amuses me but it does. Frommmm…MyWay!

Amid a four-act show at Cardiff’s packed Millennium Stadium, a video interlude carried images of destruction, global warming, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Zimbabwe’s authoritarian President Robert Mugabe – and U.S. Senator John McCain. Another sequence, shown later, pictured slain Beatle John Lennon, followed by climate activist Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally McCain’s Democratic rival Barack Obama.

So let’s break it down.

In Group 1 we have…

Destruction
Global Warming
Hitler
Robert Mugabe
John McCain

In Group 2……..

John Lennon
Al Gore
Mahatma Ghandi
Barack Obama

I think she’s trying to tell us something in her shrew, cagey, deft sort of way.

  1. Well, seems she never had problems with speaking her mind, isn’t it?

    Good Morning,

    ======================================

    If this is coffee, please bring me some tea;
but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee.
    — Abraham Lincoln

There is nothing more dreadful than imagination without taste.
    — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Ovidiu, I thought about a previous conversation we had when I saw this; the article describes the show as being “billed as a musical mishmash of “gangsta pimp,” Romanian folk, rave, and dance

Two good quotes by the way, the coffee one I will file away for later as I’m enjoying a particularly nice cup right now.

The Goethe is a gem that seem applicable to Madonna’s artistic vision.
Although, it might be better to say imagination without wit.

  5. Really? It would be interesting to see why they consider it this way, I mean where’s the Romanian folk influence. However, it is usually interesting when somebody outside your culture takes a bit of your traditional music and adapts it, in some cases results an interesting mix. Otherwise the result may be a kitsch…

As a good result I think of Steve Vai’s Babuska ,if I don’t confuse the song, where he takes a theme from Slavic music and adapts it.

  6. Pribek says:

I’ve read that quote a few different places Ovidiu. I don’t know how Romanian folk music is incorporated in Madonna’s show. I can’t think of any title but, I have heard some other types of folk music melodies in some of her stuff. Like maybe, some Hindu influence, I don’t know. The word “kitsch” is interesting because, I would associate it with cabaret which, I think is present in Madonna’s presentation. I would also say that the melodies in cabaret music are influenced by Gypsy music. Just my impression, no research.

I found the Vai song on YT, nice.

  7. There’s something there. She’s trying to make a point, an association. I’m not quite sure what.

Here you go…here’s a guy that ties the Hitler/McCain correlation together

I wasn’t surprised when a friend of mine sent me a story about her treatment of John McCain at the kickoff of her new tour this weekend in Wales.

But the friend who sent it to me was giggling… “They compared McCain to the Nazis… lol.”

He was giggling because he finds that far-fetched. That’s because he’s ignorant of history and politics, having never finished high school. He uses his supposed Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder as an excuse for all of his shortcomings and failings, much the way McCain uses his time as a prisoner of war. When you explain to him that rightist politics inevitably leads to fascism he is incapable of imagining that Nazism is anything other than hatred of Jews. Probably all of the yentas and fressers are.

  9. I don’t see how anyone who is for privatization and against tax increases can be called fascist.

  10. Pribek says:

You must have graduated from a different high school Sans.

The questionably unseen Tyrraniclitoriasaurus Raptor-Mastadon in the room that does not get attention is:

How does one go about influencing Madonna who has tried everything and still loses out?

Shouldn’t M retire and let the younger Amy W pick up that baton? Not a hater, just a baiter, master.

  12. Pribek says:

Alright Alright Woah! Back the truck up a sec

    did you say TyrraniCLIToriasaurus?

    Ouch.

Is that a microphone in that dudes thong?
