…is going on two tours old now. One time, it’s a prop…two tours…do you think she’s serious about wanting to be a guitar player?

  1. I’d have to see the stage show to know for sure. I’ll do a lot for you, Pribek, but I won’t do that.

But really, if you’re gonna be serious with playing guitar, that is a serious guitar to play.

  2. Pribek says:

It looks like a good solid B Major barre chord.

Over time I have developed some little tests. One is the “Would I cross the street to see that?” test. When somebody shows me promo, like a poster, I imagine myself in a crowded bar district, lots of traffic. I look at it as if I’ve never heard of the act or what they do; I know nothing about them. Now, I look at the poster and ask myself, “Would I cross this busy street, and fight all the foot traffic to see this on the basis of this poster?” Usually no.

If I saw this picture on a poster and knew nothing of Madonna, I would cross the street.

  3. You whipped puppy of the Madonna Genre… I know you aren’t alone… but this photo scrapes my last nerve!

first — until this very moment I did not know this is Mado
second — I thought it was a demonstration of passing wind by playing air guitar
third — any time I see and somehow recognize the Liza Minnelli of your generation, I think “Queef !”

  4. Pribek says:

Yeah, I know what you mean; Liza Minnelli rocks!

  5. Axe says:

Sex sells – and that guitar sure is purdy!

  6. Marty McFly says:

    September 14: liptease

    The act of putting on lipstick suggestively;
The oral equivalent of a striptease.

“Diane was giving me a liptease from across the room, so I went over and asked her out.”

For my sins I’ve seen Madge play live three times.

The first time I was dragged kicking and screaming. I’m not a madge fan but the show was brilliantly choreographed and performed. It wasn’t just ‘Madonna in concert’. It was a masterpiece of theatre. There was also a strong political and moral (gasp!) message. It was the ‘Drowned World’ tour.

The second time I was definitely keen to see the show, but it was a greatest hits thing and I really didn’t care to see her do ‘Holiday’, but all the hits were re-imagined and it was a great show (again).

The last time was the Confessions tour, the one with the supposedly controvertial Madge-on-a-cross scandal (which was actually valid imagery as far as I can remember and not as sacrilicious (sic) as her detractors would lead you to believe) It was okay, but didn’t approach the Drowned World spectacle.

For #1 (or #2???), she’d just started to learn to play and while she seemed to be strumming about the right stuff, she was doubled and over-played by the regular guitarist, standing behind her. For the last one, though, she found her volume knob and did some decent power-chord strumming. Nothing too technical. Nothing too lead-y, but she could hold her own. She only played on one song, as far as I remember, too…

And yes, the Gibson LP sounded the business!

hmmmmm….tone is a big part of it. I wonder if we could get Madge to guest post and tell us, in detail, about her rig.
