I get it…BOYS spelled backwards!

Regulars here will understand why I’m pointing out Jason Gelt’s nice re-set review at Examiner of a record that I don’t recall by a band that I don’t recall.

Released in 1980 on Safari Records, “The Yobs Christmas Album” was a holiday themed joke LP created by pop-punk masters The Boys (‘Yobs’ is ‘Boys’ spelled backward in case you hadn’t already figured that out).

The Yobs! Who knew?

Like the Vibrators before them, the Boys were sneered at as nancy-boy pop posers by punk rock purists until the Powerpearls compilations of the late nineties introduced power pop to a new generation of punk enthusiasts.

I need to read Jason’s stuff more often. Yahtzee! for invoking the concept of “Punk Rock Purists” which, always makes me grin. And, a solid Double Yahtzee!! for the phrase “Nancy-Boy Pop Posers”. Well played Mr. Gelt.

Now that is some good alliteration in that statement. I would only change one word: “enthusiasts” to “pugilists.”

    Thanks, and good night.
