   Urban legend and Hollywood folklore have it that Jennings and The Big Bopper flipped a coin for the last seat on the plane, with Jennings losing. It was, in fact, Tommy Allsup who flipped the coin for the fated plane trip. [wkpd]

   Interesting juxtaposition here … and I am thinking I am the sole Texan in the group of more qualified artists who assemble here occasionally … hoping this is not a test of my volition nor a burden too great for me to bear …

   that is why I will at some time in some place toss a coin to determine who I would lay my money down as Cagiest Hard Luck West Texas Cowboy who doesn’t know he is a Hard Luck Cowboy winner for tonight’s Match.

   Over the water couldn’t get no hotter then I dang near froze

   I lost some respect for Waylon when opening a show for him and he had his motorhome parked behind the flatbed stage. He had the AC, Jacuzzi, oven…every amenity that you could possibly have in a motorhome running all out full tilt boogie, leaving us one outlet for the whole band from which we were drawing around 80 volts. I asked the road manager if he could ask the big guy to maybe cut the hot tub for a few minutes so our guitars wouldn’t sound like kazoos. Road manager said fuck off pal.

   I lost some respect for Billy Joe after he went in to an onstage vile profane rant directed at a friend of mine during a show being recorded for radio broadcast. My friend was engineering the show. Billy Joe’s rant was misdirected, unfounded and reprehensible. My friend graciously edited out all of the offensive material and destroyed it lest it get in the wrong hands down the line.

   But…I like ‘em both. It might be noteworthy to note that Billy Joe wrote some of Waylon’s coolest stuff. But, he’s a moron for shooting a guy outside of a bar. But…do we know for sure that Waylon never shot some guy outside of a bar? Where’s the smart money on that one?

   Tough call considering all that.
