    WELL WE’RE BIG ROCK SINGERS
    WE GOT GOLDEN FINGERS
AND WE’RE LOVED EVERYWHERE WE GO

    WE SING ABOUT BEAUTY
    AND WE SING ABOUT TRUTH
AT TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A SHOW

WE TAKE ALL KINDS OF PILLS
TO GIVE US ALL KINDS OF THRILLS
BUT THE THRILL WE’VE NEVER KNOWN

IS THE THRILL THAT WILL GET YOU
    WHEN YOU GET YOUR PICTURE
ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONE

One eye open, one eye closed
Jungle fever in the grip of my clothes
I pray the Lord, my soul to keep
But he always gives it back to me

    Chorus:
Oh yea, zig zaggin’ through ghostland
Oh yea, call me the shadow when I move
Oh yea, zig zaggin’ thru ghostland
Who knows what evil lurks, the shadow do

Check my sergeant, now he got stripes
Roars like a tiger in the broad daylight
But he’s just a sheep, deep in his sleep
That’s when I make my midnight creep

I’m runnin’ silent, and I’m runnin’ deep
First thing you learn, ch’a better not make a peep
And if you move in a straight line
We’ them Ghost’ll barbecue your behind

    The shadow do
    The shadow do
    The shadow do

The late Phil Lynott was a cool poet/lyric writer. And as a vocalist he could fit it all together so naturally & storylike, not unlike fellow Irishman Van Morrison. His were not necessarily deep or lofty themes or statements, but nonetheless cleverly crafted and heartfelt.

Before there was Rap & Hip hop, Phil Lynott was nailin’ the rhymes and phrasing with ease.

Check out “Dear Miss Lonely Hearts”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NQJ3-77xvI

    Lyric excerpt:

    Dear lonely boy
    I doubt if my reply
    Will bring much joy
It seems from your letter that you lied
    Or strongly implied
    That you were satisfied
To take her sister by your side
    I became distressed
At your total lack of tactfulness
    So at best
    All i can suggest
    Is that you resist
    And you put an end
    To such thoughts of silliness

Try singing this verse 5 times fast like Phil Lynott!;))

    Shel Silverstein?

Yeah, I’m down with Lynott on this. Here’s another one where he’s spittin’ the rhymes with some real interesting cadence.

some effective imagery in his stuff too like the girl at the movies who eats the Junior Mints before going snake hunting…

Aren’t there a lot of legit “poets” from Ireland? Must be something in air or water…I always thought Rory had a good turn of phrase and you could make a case for Bono I guess.

Nice one! I remember in the liner notes it said that the title came from a Geronimo quote about how he evaded the infantry for so long.

Yeah Jack, “You Can Do Anything” is the best example! I read that Lynott also published 2 books of poetry. If he’d have taken better care of his liver, he could’ve been as big as Springsteen.

Leaves were falling ..Just like embers
In colors red and gold they set us on fire
Burning just like a moonbeam ..in our eyes

    Somebody said they saw me
Swinging the world by the tail
    Bouncing over a white cloud.
    Killing the Blues

alright then; if you’re going there, I got to say…

Felicia is my dark horse girl
I’ll take her if it rains
    She throws up punch
    Upon the host
    And says many stupid things
    But she ain’t so bad
    When we’re all alone
    She’s as different
    As can be
    She’s a part a my heart
    Don’tcha pull us apart
She’s like one of the family

?”"” BE ADVISED THIS IS RISQUÉ LYRICS “”"

And that’s why birds do it, bees do it
    Even educated fleas do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, ‘gainst their wish, do it
    Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

I’ve heard that lizards and frogs do it
    Layin’ on a rock
They say that roosters do it
    With a doodle and cock

Some Argentines, without means do it
I hear even Boston beans do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

The most refined lady bugs do it
    When a gentleman calls
Moths in your rugs they do it
What’s the use of moth balls

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it,
    Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

I’m sure sometimes on the sly you do it
Maybe even you and I might do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

    When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
    Starts to sing Spring
    When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding dong Ding dong
    When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune to the moon up above
It is nature that is all
Simply telling us to fall in love

Another beg Favorite in our house :

    Lowell George
You yelled hey when your car wouldn’t start
So you got real nervous and started to eat your heart out
Now you’re so fat your shoes don’t fit on your feat
    You got trouble
    And it’s tailor made
Well mama lay your head down in the shade

‘Cause your eyes are tired, and your feat are too
And you wish the world was as tired as you, whoa
Well I’ll write a letter, and I’ll send it away
And put all the trouble in int you had today

Oh your telephone ring and you went “oh ho”
You forgot about this, and you forgot about that
‘Cause you got to get back to what you doing
Goodbye, click that, so and so
You’re an island and on your own

You yelled hey when the stove blew up
    Upset? why yes
And the footprints on your ceiling, they’re almost gone
    And you’re wondering why?
Well mama lay your head down, don’t you cry

Childhood Favorites: Used to air guitar and sing along…
    Ricky Nelson:
You passed me by one sunny day
Flashed those big brown eyes my way
And oo I wanted you forever more
Now I’m not one that gets around
I swear my feet stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before

    [chorus:]
    I said “Hello Mary Lou
    Goodbye heart
    Sweet Mary Lou
I’m so in love with you

    I knew Mary Lou
    We’d never part
    So Hello Mary Lou
    Goodbye heart”

I saw your lips I heard your voice
believe me I just had no choice
Wild horses couldn’t make me stay away
I thought about a moonlit night
My arms about good an’ tight
That’s all I had to see for me to say

    –AND–

    I’m a travelin’ man
I’ve made a lot of stops all over the world
And in every part I own the heart
Of at least one lovely girl

I’ve a pretty Seniorita waiting for me
    Down in old Mexico
If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see
    My cute little Eskimo

Oh my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town
Makes my heart start to yearn
And my China doll down in old Hong Kong
    Waits for my return

Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea
    I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki
And I held you oh so tight

    [instrumental break]

Oh my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town
Makes my heart start to yearn
And my China doll down in old Hong Kong
    Waits for my return

Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea
    I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki
And I held you oh so tight

    Oh, I’m a travelin’ man
    Yes, I’m a travelin’ man

    Pretty Woman lyrics
    Songwriters: Dees, Bill; Orbison, Roy;
Pretty woman, walking down the street
Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet
    Pretty woman

I don’t believe you, you’re not the truth
No one could look as good as you
    Mercy

Pretty woman, won’t you pardon me?
Pretty woman, I couldn’t help but see
    Pretty woman

Then you look lovely as can be
Are you lonely just like me?
    Wow

    Pretty woman, stop a while
    Pretty woman, talk a while
Pretty woman, gave your smile to me

    Pretty woman, yeah yeah yeah
    Pretty woman, look my way
Pretty woman, say you’ll stay with me

‘Cause I need you, I’ll treat you right
Come with me baby, be mine tonight

Pretty woman, don’t walk on by
Pretty woman, don’t make me cry
Pretty woman, don’t walk away, hey, okay

If that’s the way it must be, okay
I guess I’ll go on home, it’s late
There’ll be tomorrow night, but wait

    What do I see
Is she walking back to me
Yeah, she’s walking back to me

    Oh, oh, pretty woman
