As Seen On TV
I just sat down to have a bowl of rice and thought I might check the TV news to see if there were any breaking stories I may have missed.
After hearing an MSNBC news chick question whether we are entering “a new age of McCartneyism” (hunh!!??)…
…and viewing a few ads describing horrible side effects from miraculous new medications right alongside a few others seeking participants, who have been horribly disfigured by faulty medications and procedures, for class action law suits…it crossed my mind that it’s no mistake that mainstream TV news is circling the drain and wondering if it is all part of some grand master plan to destroy what’s left of intelligent thought.
I realize that my TV viewing, at this point, consists of baseball, old or straight-to-DVD movies on Netflix, ridiculous cooking contest scenario game shows and…the History Channel or the Arts & Entertainment network which, of course have nothing to do with history or art (entertaining though) but are instead a stew of new age versions of the Beverly Hillbillies (charming rednecks who have somehow goobered their way in to a fortune and/or are somehow making their way through the modern age while retaining elements of hillbilly culture) and shows about pawn shops that depict scenes nothing like any the depressing collections of crap and human refuse that I’ve seen in real life pawn shops.
Go figure…

What is TV ?
the elders often spoke of pictures that magically came from the sky
If you watch Television you notice that the shows that are one hour long are actually 44:13 minutes long. Commercials take over a quarter of the time to push the products. But even then TV directors push their own envelopes and present you with their version of the “cliff hanger” ending that will make you watch their show again and again.
As a new season opens we will be entertained, or let down, as the characters become more developed. Depending a bit on the writing, and a bit on happy accidents, the shows directors might offer new information.
What you won’t be seeing: (from March 2009-ish) — “RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – A group of Saudi clerics urged the kingdom’s new information minister on Sunday to ban women from appearing on TV or in newspapers and magazines, making clear that the country’s hardline religious establishment is skeptical of a new push toward moderation. … ” [LINK]

Saudi clerics: ” … “We have noticed how well-rooted perversity is in the Ministry of Information and Culture, in television, radio, press, culture clubs and the book fair.”
But lest we forget the moments of TV history, like the televised moon landings, Elvis meeting Nixon, the mini-series Roots, and thus a treasure trove of public appearances that are miraculously being snagged on youTube today…
Politically tubed — ” …One of the factors contributing to Muldoon’s cultural survival is probably his ubiquity in the media. Not only was he one of the first politicians to make effective use of television (you can view the National Party’s notorious 1975 ‘Dancing Cossacks’ TV ad on nzhistory.net), but his distinctive features were eminently caricaturable. Every political cartoonist had their own Muldoon, and he was also impersonated on television (most memorably by David McPhail on the satirical shows A Week of It and McPhail and Gadsby). … ” [HERE]
MooPig Enterprises wants to encourage television watchers and Video-ubertrobes, that everything on TV is not fake: HA!!!
And then there is the Cable Packages that offer 300 channels… the majority of which are Home Shopping Networks, NEWS roundabouts, Religious Channels, and infomercials… leaving about seven channels worth watching… 7 out of 300 is not so bad… or is it?
“Oprah Gail Winfrey is an American television host, producer, and philanthropist, best known for her self-titled, multi-award winning talk show, which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history. She has been ranked the richest African American of the 20th century and beyond, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was once the world’s only black billionaire. She is also, according to some assessments, the most influential woman in the world. OWN[HERE]

NOTE: (Through long-term commercial saturation, it has become implicitly understood by the public that advertising has the right to own, occupy and control every inch of available space. The steady normalization of invasive advertising dulls the public’s perception of their surroundings, re-enforcing a general attitude of powerlessness toward creativity and change, thus a cycle develops enabling advertisers to slowly and consistently increase the saturation of advertising with little or no public outcry.)
Thus the TV medium… carry on my wayward son.
