Mark Potok Invokes “No Prior Knowledge” In Sikh Temple Bombing

Here’s a little flashback…

At the center of the controversy is an unclassified copy of a memorandum marked “From the Director of the FBI” that contains several references to an FBI undercover operation at Elohim City before the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building…

…The potentially explosive contents of the teletype, among other things, exposed for the first time an informant operation being conducted by nationally known civil rights lawyer Morris Dees through his organization the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

In some detail the FBI acknowledged the SPLC was engaged in an undercover role where it monitored subjects for the FBI believed to be linked to executed bomber Timothy McVeigh, the white supremacist compound at Elohim City and the mysterious German national Andreas Carl Strassmeir.

Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center had some interesting things to say yesterday regarding the shooting at the Oak Creek Sikh temple in Wisconsin and suspected gun man Wade Michael Page.

According to Potok, the SPLC had been keeping tabs on Page since 2000 and was not “surprised” that the attack happened yet had “no prior knowledge” (an odd thing to bring up and an odd phrase to use unless we recall that the focus of the SLPC’s involvement in Murrah bombing was the question of prior knowledge). Potok also stated that there is no official connection between the SPLC and law enforcement, which obviously contradicts the OKC history, and did not seem transparent on the organization’s information gathering tactics. Potok, as always, was quick to point out the dangers of “right wing extremists” but, did not comment Page’s curious Psy-Ops background.
