I subscribed to the Art News blog a while back but, didn’t get around to checking it out until this morning. While perusing the posts in my Google reader, in the interest of keeping up with highbrow culture, I clicked on a one entitled Madonna Nude…
The nude Madonna and Guy Ritchie painting by Peter Howson ended up selling this week. It failed to sell at a recent contemporary Scottish art auction by McTear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow but has since been sold for more than the £15,000 reserve price.

Woah!
That’s a handsome woman there.
Personally, I think Mr. Howson could have doubled that £15,000 reserve merely by adding a leering A-Rod, dangling a jug of HGH, peeping through the window. But, what do I know about art?
I have learned that there lies dormant in the souls of all men a penchant for some particular musical instrument, and an unsuspected yearning to learn to play on it, that are bound to wake up and demand attention some day. Therefore, you who rail at such as disturb your slumbers with unsuccessful and demoralizing attempts to subjugate a fiddle, beware! for sooner or later your own time will come.
-Mark Twain

“Jack, you were so far out of tune, the fiddle player noticed”.
-A guy I worked for in a band
I saw this at Alex Ross’s blog. What we have here is Leonard Bernstein conducting the finale of the Shostakovich Fifth while a series of written comments, selected by Steve Lambert of the YouTube Commentary Project, are read aloud.
Fascinating dialog.
As always, click your baton then click pause on the music player located in the side bar before playing the YouTube.
