Surely you’ve heard of the “Doomsday Vault”. It’s the frozen storage, seed bank located in Norway that is there to protect the future of the food supply in the event of Global catastrophe.

Seeds from some of North America’s hottest food crops have arrived on the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard to be stored in a “doomsday vault”.

The consignment of chilli seeds was delivered to the frozen outpost by a delegation of seven US senators.

Hunh!!?? It took seven senators to deliver a few seed packets? I’m pretty sure I could FedEx ‘em for around $14.00. Oh well, better safe than sorry, I guess. And, what more trustworthy couriers could you find than a pack of politicians?

Very rarely does a concert review catch my eye. Most of them consist of; the performer was on his game, off his game, didn’t play the two songs I wanted to hear, did play the two songs I wanted to hear, wore cool or ugly clothes.

Eh, who cares? I get it; nobody is taking chances. Don’t need to read about it.

But, over the weekend I’ve been seeing some off the norm reaction to the John Zorn, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed show at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. They ruffled some feathers and it was because of the music, not fashion or tabloid fodder! Kind of refreshing.

The trio were there to play totally improvised music that I see being described as “free jazz” or “avant-garde”. And, I guess a good portion of the audience, that payed upwards of $100 a seat, thought they were going to hear “Sweet Jane” and there was a minor revolt that prompted Zorn to say…

“If you don’t think it’s music, then get the f–k outta here,”

The district attorney’s office said he’s charged with obstruction of governmental administration. He’s also charged with resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Don’t ride a bike to a bank robbery. Anchorage, Alaska…

Police took a call at 1:15 p.m. from a customer who saw a man wearing a camouflage bandanna confront a teller at a downtown Wells Fargo bank branch. The witness reported hearing the man say, “This is a robbery. Give me the money fast.”

The teller stuffed money into the man’s backpack.

“There was a weapon implied,” Parker said. “No weapon was seen.”

A second witness told a police dispatcher the man’s getaway vehicle was a bicycle.

Officer Aaron Roberts, responding to a holdup alarm, spotted a bicyclist several blocks away passing through an intersection. The cyclist wore a camouflage bandanna around his neck.

He refused to stop, police said, so Roberts chased him until he could maneuver his car into the bike’s path.

The suspect didn’t slow down and struck the patrol car, Parker said. The bicyclist slid over the hood but lost his backpack. “He ended in a heap with his money pouring out of his pack,” Parker said.

The man did not seem fazed, Parker said.

“It didn’t hurt him at all,” he said. “He popped up and ran away.”

Roberts, who stays in shape with martial arts, ran him down after about a half block, Parker said.

“Give me the money fast!” Oh, man; that’s beautiful. Dude’s in a real hurry…on his bike.

And…maybe…if you used a camo bandanna as your disguise…you should probably take it off once you hop on your Huffy!
