Check out this story from Breitbart/AP.
A woman attacked a karaoke singer belting out Coldplay on Thursday night, telling him he “sucked” before she pushed and punched him to get him to stop singing, bar staff said. The man was singing “Yellow” when it happened.
“It took three or four of us to hold her down,” bartender Robert Willmette said. When she was escorted outside, the 21-year-old woman “went crazy,” Willmette said, throwing punches at him and others, including an off- duty police officer.
Patrol officers and detectives then arrived at the neighborhood bar and blocked off the street, which inflamed the woman’s rage even more, a police report said. Before police could handcuff the woman, she headbutted the off-duty officer at least twice.
The off-duty officer was treated for cuts, scrapes and bruises.
After treatment for injuries, the woman was booked into the King County jail for investigation of assault. She was also held on a warrant issued for a previous theft charge.
According to bartender notes, she had only a single shot of Jagermeister.
One shot of Jagermeister hmm… probably more to that part of the story. I have seen people do some strange stuff on the Jager though. I worked with a bass player that used to mix cognac, draft beer, coke and Jager. He was on his lips a lot during that phase.
Back on the topic, I find it curious that the perp in the karaoke attack was a 21-year-old woman. We can assume, at 21 that she hasn’t spent a lot of time in bars. Do you think that she just stumbled into this place, and having never before been exposed to the injustice of a normal karaoke performance, and snapped? Or, maybe the guy had it coming. Maybe, he was so bad that it was just a matter of time until someone stoved his head, and this woman, with the initial Jager euphoria coursing through her veins, did what everybody else in the joint wanted to.
I have never attacked anybody in a bar. But then, I haven’t been to a lot of karaoke bars either. I would think that most people who go to them are there to sing themselves, not just to watch. I can’t imagine any circumstance where I would go to a karaoke bar and sing. That does bring to mind another possibility. Maybe, she was there to sing. Maybe, she wanted to do the Coldplay song and lost it because this guy was doing her song.
Frankly, I’m surprised that this sort of thing doesn’t happen more often. People take their music seriously. They are sitting there, waiting all night to sing their big song, pounding Jagermeisters, and somebody steals their thunder. What do you think is going to happen? Maybe, there is a lot of karaoke related violence going on that we don’t know about. Next time I see a headline that says something like, “Man Stabbed in Bar Fight”, I am going to wonder if there was a karaoke element that was overlooked.
At the very least, this karaoke violence is something that needs to be looked into. I doubt that this is an isolated incident. It may be time to put a stop to this public safety hazard through legislative means. I think that someone should introduce an anti-karaoke bill in order to keep the streets safe for our citizens.
Stop karaoke.
Karaoke kills.
