While most of the world is traipsing around listening to compressed song files through those little ear “buds”, there are still some true audiophiles.

Check out this piece of gear; the Titan power amp by Musical Fidelity. From Luxury CE

In Greek Mythology, the Titans were the powerful forbearers of the gods, know for their size and might. So, Musical Fidelity aptly chose that name to give its new amplifier, the Titan, a handcrafted dual mono amp. It has some pretty significant power, able to channel 1,000 watts per channel in to 8 Ohms (and subsequently 2,000 watts into 4 Ohms and 4,000 watts into 2 Ohms). The amp boasts a number of high-end audio benefits, including a distortion and signal to noise ratio claim of less than 0.01 percent from 10Hz to 50kHz. It also boasts low noise, wide dynamic range and has inputs for balanced and single ended connections, along with two sets of 30 micron gold-plated speaker terminals. The front panel is machined from a solid billet of aluminum and all the heatsinks and the top panel are made from custom extrusions. Retailing at $30,000 each, the amp is built at the company’s facility in Wembley, England, the Titan is literally hand-crafted one at a time.

30 Large…30K…30 Grrrr…that’s right, you heard right $30,000.

But, we all know that a bitchin’ HiFi starts with the power. Got to have good power. Yep…power…

OK, we’ve seen tube amps for iPods. How about a tube headphone amp. From Cary Audio Design

Cary Audio Design is thrilled to introduce the most recent addition to its storied history of superb vacuum-tube audio technologies, the Xciter integrated amplifier.

This innovative integrated power amplifier was conceived to be a small desktop integrated unit, and designed to please the discerning headphone fanatic and the high-end audiophile alike. In the Cary tradition, it features a gorgeous cabinet, and has a subtle touch of translucent blue LED back lighting to complement the natural beauty of the vacuum tubes.

Although it may be small in physical size, it is imbued with the full spirit of Cary Audio. Its five watts per channel in class A triode mode plays much bigger than one might expect, and its sublime musicality is just what you would expect from Cary Audio.

A 5 watter; that should be more than enough for headphones. But, dig this; this baby has two 12AX7A input gain stage/driver stage tubes and four 6L6GC output tubes. Four 6L6s! That’s some beef there.

How are you ever going to get that to saturate? heh, heh….

This is all still very odd to me.
