The bassoon is one of my favorite instruments. It has the medieval aroma, like the days when everything used to sound like that. Some people crave baseball…I find this unfathomable, but I can easily understand why a person could get excited about playing the bassoon.

The conventional baseball wisdom is that if a pitcher piles up 300 career wins, he is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

300…magic number.

The contemporary baseball wisdom is that the era of 300 win pitchers has come to an end. The game has changed and over a career a pitcher will not have enough opportunities as a starter to pull it off.

This guy…

…Jamie Moyer, last night, he won number 253. He just keeps going. I’m beginning to think he might keep going until he gets the 300.

Jamie Moyer is older than I am. I didn’t realize that until I heard a report on the radio this morning. I don’t know why that makes me feel so good, knowing that there is at least one major leaguer older than me but, it does.

Rave on Jamie Moyer!

This one is outside of the box even by Cage Match standards.

Joe DiMaggio or Alex Rodriguez?

OK, okok…I know that the FNCMFPECDAA isn’t a baseball deal or, it never has been so far. And, by all means, if you wish to spew eloquent about line drives to the gap, do so with vigor. But, there is a fascinating pop culture/music angle to this match-up that I really haven’t heard anyone talking about.
