I listened to the Presidents speech tonight.
I looked up the ‘Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002′, afterwards.
One thing I found interesting was the last sentence in the “whereas” section which is the part at the beginning that lists reasons and intentions for the particular legislation. Here it is.
Whereas it is in the national security interests of the United States to restore international peace and security to the Persian Gulf region
I have been hearing the phrase “nation building” being tossed around a lot recently and the above phrase seems right in line with that concept.
Keep in mind that this resolution was passed by the House 296-133 and the Senate 77-23. It was clearly a product of both parties. So, both parties are responsible in answering this question that was part of the original intent.
How do we restore international peace and security to the Persian Gulf?
On another topic, I read the new Stephen King book “Lisey’s Story”. My friend Nancy loaned it to me with the words, “you’ll like this one, King is back”. It’s the first fiction I’ve read since I can remember and considering my recent screw-ups a little escapism was nice. It’s a good book. I got a little lost a few times with the travel to other dimensions but I’ve found that with King if you are a little lost, just keep reading and it will come together.
He’s a good writer. Can you sell a bazillion books and be under-rated? I also like it that he always finds a way to plug some obscure music.
