Here’s an example of why I love the digital age.

I’m sitting in the Winnebago, as the ice is slowly melting, making a few phone calls, trying to scare up a gig in an effort to give myself the illusion of semi-solvency. I have some music playing in the background. Months ago, I ripped hundreds of tracks, from my CD collection and put them into various play lists on my media player. From time to time, I like to put one of these play lists on random play and let her rip, you know? As I am contemplating my next move, the track “Death Letter Blues” from the very fine James”Blood” Ulmer album, “Memphis Blood” comes on. Great album-great track, I love Blood’s style but, as it’s playing, I think to myself; “Sure would like to hear the Son House version right about now”. As if by magic, a couple of songs later, Son House is playing and singing…

I got a letter this mornin, I say how do you reckon it read?
You know, it said, “Hurry, hurry, how come the gal you love is dead?”
So, I grabbed up my suitcase, and took off down the road
When I got there she was layin on a coolin’ board

I forgot I even had that version. How cool! Love ripping songs-love random play.

So, I’m thinking to myself; “I wonder if there’s a YouTube of Son playing “Death Letter”? Sure enough, there’s actually different versions of a couple of different performances. I liked this one the best.
