“Cruise Control” by the Dixie Dregs.

This is cool…don’t see much of Mark O’Connor era Dregs. I liked Mark when he was rocking.

I wonder if Morse ever busts out the old FrankenTele once in a while.

As always, resume speed and click pause on the music player located in the side bar before playing the YouTube.

The Dixie Dregs came out during the Southern Rock era and the machine tried to lump them in with The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, Skynyrd, Allmans etc. It didn’t work because these guys really did defy category. All instrumentals so, that made them outsiders right there. They could be funky, rock and roll and they had a Mahavishnu streak that probably didn’t help their mainstream appeal. And, they delved in to country music but, it was there own take on souped up bluegrass.

It was kind of funny because I remember seeing them on some network TV shows from time to time. Like someone was trying to push them but they didn’t know what they were pushing. I recall Tom Snyder seeming more baffled than usual. They were misfits that could play like a house on fire.

This clip is from Montreux in 1978. It’s called “The Bash” and it’s based on “The Wabash Cannonball”.

As always, fix up some cornbread and beans then hit pause on the music player located in the sidebar before playing the YouTube.
